Oh yeah, its best off to take the glovebox out.. those lights are fragile and cost around 40 euros for a new one which... will also break next time the lamp goes.

In the case of the MFD-1 head unit, I would get the switching working 100% of the time when i had it powered on a bench.
Once in the car, switching would stop working after 15mins of the car being idle, and instantly if i drove the car straight away.
Disconnecting K-Line took care of the first issue ...

I have now ran out of parts to fit, so I'll update the thread once another care package arrives from the influential investor.

Definitely one of the tidier installs I've seen.
Where did you get the fabric for the backing from? Looks like a very close match to OEM

Sadly its looking more like this:
Door has been dismantled, with the door card still attached and the loom in. The Patent Pending Ronin method.

Super rusty and bodged door lock replaced with a good used one:

Then it was time to ...

Wet mirror relay was easy, just swapped it for a good one after i made sure there was no further water ingress after fixing botang's hole:

The gear selector button will not depress after pressing it, so i replaced the knob which made no difference.
I then sprayed the mechanism ...

When taking off the scuttle for botang's hole, one of its securing tabs detached.
In the pic below you can see that it was a friday job at the factory, because only 2 out of 4 pegs have been melted (badly) to secure it:
