Re: Air conditioning barely working

The high side port is on the condenser in front of the radiator, left side looking at it. You don't need to remove anything other than the cap

Re: Amp not switching off

The test is to connect a multimeter on ohms between the phono ground (outer shell) and the power ground. If you get zero / low resistance then the amp is not suitable. High resistance / open circuit is what you want. I don't know that any manufacturer actually includes floating / chassis ground in ...

Re: Springs, shocks options?

If you don't want to sacrifice any ride comfort then agreed stay away from coilovers. KW are even worse than Spax in that regard.

The Eibach Sport kit for the D2 is almost the same as stock S8 springs, maybe slightly stiffer. On stock S8 dampers its almost impossible to tell the difference, its ...

Re: Amp not switching off

Some amps can cope with it, but most not. Sony tend to be compatible. Phoenix Gold and Alpine not so much. Its all down to whether their inputs are grounded to the chassis or just within the preamp. You can check with a multimeter, but only after you've bought the amp

Re: Air conditioning barely working

Thats the low side port and is unusable, partly because its impossible to reach and mostly because its a unique fitting which no one has in the UK. Fill from the high side on the condenser only. I just posted a bit more about this in Lancia2000's thread :)

Re: Air Conditioning Top Up

My standing advice is to not mess with aircon. The DIY kits have no facility to measure the amount of gas in the system and can therefore either over or under-pressurise it leading to failures or poor performance. The manual is correct that the system should not be 'topped up. The correct procedure ...

Re: Springs, shocks options?

There are practically no good options for new shocks on an S8 other than coilovers. The Bilstein B12 kit does indeed lift an S8. Its designed to lower a comfort spec A8, and Bilstein inexplicably design their suspension for the maximum gross weight of the vehicle (or at least that what it seems from ...

Re: Gearbox failure at 90,000mls

Thats a shame but understandable. On balance, yes - it seems to be more rewarding to fix rusty BMWs you can still get parts for than run an aluminium Audi with no parts. M539 Restorations certainly is making a better living out of BMWs than I ever would have done from D2s

Will you replace ...

Re: Front bumber removal

Oh dear :( Its pretty common for them to sieze in the aluminium receiver in the bumper, especially for stuff thats been laid up a while. Ask Dean about the 16-hour timing belt job :?

It is just possible to get the bumper off with the two rams still attached to it, which is what I do in these ...
