Re: Gearbox toast

Yeah I noticed its back up again, still listed as an FE even though he knows it isn't

Makes you wonder what kind of lunatics were bidding on it thinking it was a good running car looking at the pictures! Tide mark in the passenger footwell, gearbox in limp mode, engine bay that looks like ...

Re: Gearbox toast

Crikey. thats pretty much guaranteed to kill off the remaining few D2s then :(

Not sure if this has any impact on your way ahead, but this parts car sold for £5329 at the weekend  Whether its a real sale or not, time will tell, but there were two accounts fighting over it for most of the ...

Re: S8 transmission service

A good result then :) I've not seen a rubber gasket for the 5hp24a before. Where did that come from?

Re: Gearbox service time

IIRC its about 20 litres for a flush, so full drum of Mannol AG52. Not terrible. I looked in to it when I was still working on them but 95% of the work I did was engine-out major services, so I could just flip the box over and work on it out of the car. There may be a market from D2 owners for this ...

Re: Gearbox toast

They still fetch >£1K on ebay for spares or repairs. Likely they mostly get broken for the engine and wheels, but thats better than just being crushed I guess.

Re: S8 transmission service

I use blue hylomar on those paper gaskets, otherwise its really hard to get the buggers to seal. Decent dirko-type silicone I suspect would work just as well.

Re: Gearbox toast

Fixing this problem, as opposed to a complete overhaul, isn't that difficult. Getting it out of the car is harder tbh. Stand the box on its output flange with the bellhousing pointing up and it all comes out. The problem clutch drum is right behind the oil pump.

Re: Gearbox toast

Dexron 3 technically isn't the right stuff, but that won't stop it moving. They are actually remarkably resilient to the 'wrong' oil - my murple was filled with 75w90 gear oil when I got it, and still drove just fine  I've seen a bunch with red ATF, and yes they work better with the proper ...

Re: Boot grommets

The B5 grommets are different sizes and have different size things going through them.
