Airbag recall.

Post by Rightthen »

Hi everyone.

Finally taking her in for the "gas generator" recall. The only info from Google is it's the drivers side, and Audi wouldn't tell me anything useful other than they need it all day and they're going to do a 'health check' with a helpful traffic light system to aid me to imagine how much money each imaginary problem shall cost me, should I wish them to complete the work at several hundred pounds per hour.

Can someone tell me...

Are they just replacing the unit in the steering wheel or pillar??

Its the igniter in the steering wheel at the very least. Can't remember if the D2 needs the passenger side bag doing as well or not. Its not the curtain airbags though.

I bet half the techs at a dealership have never even seen a D2 these days. They can't get any parts for them anyway :?

All I could find on it said drivers side only. I'm pretty sure the guy at Audi said the same.

So, that being the case, they need it all day...... to disconnect the battery and take off two torx bolts

They've got to claim those warranty hours from Audi :D It'll take longer to type up the shopping list of things they would love to change but can't get than it will to do the actual work

It was brilliant to see their faces when I rolled in with my ancient car. They couldn't wait to get it off the forecourt  I asked if the health check was mandatory, and they said no but made me sign something to say I didn't want it.

One of the techs thanked me for keeping her on the road, though. So big up him.

Failed MOT on sticky brakes, though, so looks like I've got to spend boxing day rebuilding the calipers. Yay! Must have been with it sitting through the fuel pump debacle.

Rear. They said the front had an imbalance as well so I took it to the sticks and stamped the pedal aggressively a few times to get the ABS firing. That usually takes care of it. If not, the fronts too

The pads and disks all round have only done 1k miles, so they're still fresh as a daisy
