You can't realistically disassemble and replace that part so you'll need a replacement. Beware it totally failing and leaving you unable to open the boot without breaking/cutting stuff!
If you're in Slough that's only just over 10 miles from me, maybe arrange a meet up sometime to talk D2 nonsense?
I've just ordered a brand new boot latch. Everything is obsolete on these cars and seem to cost a small fortune. A meet up would be great. I've not seen another D2 on the road since owning mine. I'm sure these would look great at an Audi meet but finding the time to attend is difficult.

Not a problem at all. I am very happy to hear of people who are prepared to work on D2s, since I'm not able to any more (because of long covid).
Sorry to hear that, send them my way, I'd be happy to help

I've got mine (used) in the past from A8parts who are specialist Audi breakers and host another forum.
There was IIRC somewhat of a "falling out" between some here and them regarding potential/imagined commercial conflicts but I don't think we're in any way prohibited from mentioning or using them.

MJ may have some useful advice on ways to fix/rebuild that if my memory is correct, depending what failed.

Hello

I have rebuilt around 15 D2 alternators including custom ones that survived trips to the ring.
It's about £25-30 in parts to rebuild one to a high standard.

Before I read this my plan was to to whip it off and send it off for repair. Found a company online offering a repair with 1 year warranty, inclduding collection and delivery for £140. Brand new (refurb) Lucas/Bosch etc Is coming in at just under £400 on trade.
Is there a write up on whats involved with the rebuild? I've never actually rebuilt one myself, always thought the warranty was worth it
