There were many advantages of RNSe. A larger, higher resolution colour screen, modern maps, full postcode navigation, mp3 playback, more modern looks while still being OE, reverse camera, easier integration with other stuff. Unfortunately map updates ceased a couple of years ago, rendering it fairly pointless vs a dash-mounted phone which can do everything better other than looking nice. They went from being £400-800 when they had maps to being <£100 pretty much overnight and now there's very little point going to all the effort of retrofitting them :(

I have an Audi-styled Chinesium Android unit in mine, but its rather flaky so I use the phone via bluetooth for music and nav. The only thing the HU does is present controls in the dash, reverse cam, and TPMS for trackdays.

I fitted a OEM looking android unit into a BMW E46 in past. Looked great but the Bluetooth volume for music was terrible and the apps to allow screen share and ‘CarPlay’ were horrible so I took it back out. Since then I’ve stuck to tried and tested brands such as Pioneer.
Below is a couple of pics of the Pioneer DA250DAB I fitted in my A8. Looked good in my opinion.

Did you get any alternator whine in speakers that follows the rpm of the engine? Is your car equipped with bose?
