This is the early PF with no variable intermittent gubbins:

Thats where the fifth wire is too, not entirely sure what its doing.

Presumably, then...

The intermittent wire in the PF is given its protocol from the stalk and only runs through the relay for the sake of effecting the timing on the FL. Or maybe the relay takes over the whole job?
I can't imagine the protocol coming from the motor itself.
I digress.

But the point is, what I'm looking for at the connector is...

A break in the ground when the stalk is in the off position.
A ground in any of the on positions
A live at the other 3 points, the first being intermittent, depending on what position the stalk is in.

All of this being well and correct, I'm looking for the issue elsewhere.

I need to spend some time learning to properly translate wiring diagrams. I appreciate your patience, MikkiJayne!

For everybody's reference. I shall be wiring it properly, but it's easier to see on the Wago's.....
