Which oil are you running on these old beasts? I'll be servicing the S8 in the coming days and was wondering if there is any benefit in running different oil such as Millers etc. Mine has just over 200k on the clock. I've noticed a slight rattle for a second on startup before oil pressure builds. Not sure if this is a normal characteristic or if it's due additional service items.

A very short rattle on startup <1s is fairly normal, but if you're doing cam cover gaskets at any point, pull the cam chain tensioners and get the filter gauze out of the bottom of them before it breaks up and gets sucked in to the gubbins. Prudent to change the plastic wear pads too, especially at that mileage.

5W30 full synthetic, not Castrol or Quantum (which is rebadged Castrol). I use Mannol 7715 in most of them - they seem to like that, but Millers CFS in mine for trackdays. Probably not worth it for daily use though. Liquimoly if you want to spend the money on top-grade ordinary stuff.
