Boot Light Switch

Hello all
After months of charging and jumping, I have worked out what is draining my battery - and I feel a right twerp!
The boot lights are not switching off.
I went out at the weekend to fix what I thought were their switches - the plungers on the boot lid. But NO!
Please can you tell me where I need to look!
Regards,
Gary

The switch is in the boot catch in the bootlid. Its a microswitch actuated by the catch via a little piece of plastic which occasionally breaks, or the microswitch fails in the 'boot open' position, although you do get the warning on the DIS that the boot is open when that happens. The usual solution is to just replace it. Last time I checked, they were €50 or so on Tradition, so not worth messing about with, although I think one of the American owners was looking in to trying to repair it.
If the lights are on without the warning on the DIS then that implies something wrong with the central locking module, which anyway is the usual culprit for things not going to sleep and eating electrons.

In my experience the boot lights go out anyway after a minute or two, so as MJ says there may be another fault.
Meanwhile take the bulbs out!
The microswitch IMHO is unlikely to be the culprit but don't rule it out; I have a selection of perfectly good ones from dealing with assorted issues with the boot catch over the years, having replaced a few (just bad luck?). There are as MJ says some small plastic components in the catch that are effectively non-repairable. Mostly they fail in such a way that you can't shut (or worse can't open!) the boot.
Happy to post you a microswitch if you do decide that's the problem, it just clips into the catch once you've taken it off. IIRC the boot lid liner has to come off first which is pretty easy but somewhat tedious - lots of bolts, screws and clips.....
