Broken S8 for Project or spares

Some of you will have seen my original advert for my S8 some time ago.

It still the same basic car as below however it has a minor wrinkle. The gearbox has shit the bed.

Having done a fluid change the problem has not improved.

It will move under its own power in reverse, it will move forward with no throttle, but as soon as throttle is used the box goes clunk and the PRNDS lights up.
So, it’s going to need gearbox work. 2 specialists have quoted me £5k to do this and honestly if I was going to keep it I’d do it or DIY.

Alas I’ve been running it’s replacement for some time and wouldn’t be keeping it. DIY is out as my garage is not long enough to shut the doors with an S8 in let alone take one to bits.
Since I’m trying to move house at the moment, I also don’t have the time.

Short version its not getting fixed in my ownership.

So I have 3 choices

• Scrap it. I’d really rather not as it’s a good car. And had a lot of work done by Millo in the past. Its also worth sod all that way and I suspect won’t be doing anything to keep other cars alive/
• Break it for parts possible, though my time is limited
• Sell it as is as a Project to someone with the will/time/skill to get it back up and running

So if anyone is interested as a project or in parts, please let me know!

Original advert details below (the Stereo System has now been removed)

I won't be the first to ask; what a VCDS scan shows? Without that no-one has a clue how bad the gearbox problem is.
Also, will it actually drive in limp mode (PRNDS lit) as that usually means its locked in 3rd (4th?) gear but still drives.

Sorry to hear this

Based on the symptoms:

"It will move under its own power in reverse, it will move forward with no throttle, but as soon as throttle is used the box goes clunk and the PRNDS lights up."

VCDS will show "gear ratio incorrect". This is almost certainly the A-drum disintegrated, or at best the thrust bearing holding it together is now in the sump. It definitely mechanical, not electrical.

They are usually about £1K on the open market with a broken gearbox. Not sure if Prestige are still buying them, but it wouldn't be for much since they have transport to pay for as well.
