Cam belt kit recommendation please

Post by The_Laird »

As the title, I’m looking for a good quality cam/timing belt kit (plus water pump and thermostat) for my 2002 S8.

My garage can’t find the kit and Sean has suggested Contitech from Autodoc.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

The INA kit is OE but is getting very hard to find now. Conti or Gates are also good.

Genuine only for the water pump and thermostat. Aftermarket options are all a bit crap, and you do not want to have to go back in there. The OE thermostat doesn't come with a seal - that needs ordering separately. Also replace all the torx head bolts on the pump and thermostat housing. The D2 shares the same parts with the D3 so they are still available from TPS.

Thanks again MJ!

Have the camshaft sprocket bolts camshaft sprocket bolts N 906 371 01 been replaced with N 906 371 02?

Not sure about that tbh. I know the manual says to replace them, but I never have.

Well, if the Doctor doesn't replace them, then I'm sure that's fine for we mere mortals! :D

Another question: are the 3 water pump housing bolts 06L 441 020 B?

I've found an INA timing belt kit INA 530045210, which is the same as MJ's invoice for the work on my car.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct please?

If the part numbers are exactly the same, it's the same kit.

Water pump bolts are N 90827702. There are 12 of them - 9 on the pump, 3 on the thermostat housing. If I was the last one in there then I will have replaced them so they shouldn't be too rusty, but they're cheap enough to do as a matter of course.

Ditto the crank sprocket bolts, those will have been replaced too, but N 10238802 x8 if you want to have some on hand.

Well, the INA kit is out of stock, so I'm going to go for a Contitiech kit, but which of these is the right one?

My VIN is WAUZZZ4D63N001186, but that doesn't seem to fit the format on this site
