Say hello to my 4 new cats!
The rest was replaced due to catalytic converter codes such as:
Catalyst system bank 1&2 ,efficiency below threshold - 16814/16804
The whole operation took 4 new cats and 4 new lambda sensors + fitting accessories such as exhaust gaskets, bolts, exhaust paste and copper bolts came to £557. Labour was around 9 hours but that was done by a subject matter expert ( MikkiJayne) I'm sure it would have been much much longer if it was done by anyone else, and if any of the exhaust manifold studs broke it would have been an engine out job.
One of my nuts was seized, and it had to be cut off using a dremel with a flexible extension on it:
I would not spend the time and money painting mine again with a high temperature paint as it burned off after less than 300 miles
My replacement cats were from BM catalysts, there were quite a few burrs i had to clean up myself and welding spots, but they were 500-600% cheaper then original Audi parts:
1 hole in the rear part of the exhaust was fixed with one of those exhaust band-aids from halfords too:
So far I've done 500 miles since the cat replacement, the car is now quiet, there's no catalyst codes and it passed its MOT.
Jokes aside, I had these replaced due to one badly rattling cat which turned out to be a part of the oxygen sensor rattling inside one of them.My new pets

Re: My new pets
I remember my 'father in law' coming round to help me with some welding on the exhaust system on my old 2.8. Think I could of done a neater job but it seemed to hold . From memory bolting up the nearside downpipe to the manifold was a nightmare, custom tool design was needed just for that one bolt and routing the sensor leads wasn't fun either, but then I didn't have a lift.

I'm a tubby chap as well so the whole car was jacked up off the ground - combination of jacks and concrete blocks and all work underneath. The neighbours said they had lots of giggles at the fruity language "no wonder the effing Germans lost the bloody war!" - I miss that car.
