Hi guys,
new to the forum, so thought I'd introduce myself. I bought my A8 during lockdown to scratch a very long term itch after admiring A8's since the late 90's. After a good 4-5 months searching, this one came up in London. It had been owned by the same guy for 18 years, him having bought it approved used from Audi. Prior to that it was an Audi management car.
It's a 2000 2.8 Sport FWD which was exactly what I was after (better on fuel and arguably a bit less to go wrong with the gearbox). It was on 70k miles when I bought it, and now just under 130k miles.
Some recent photos after a weekend with the machine polisher.

Re: West Mud
a well kept fwd 2.8 is rare.
Can see that the passenger side transmission tunnel trim was out and not re-installed properly

Welcome
That is indeed a rare bird, and looks to be in very nice condition.
Funnily enough, quattro practically never goes wrong in D2s, but you definitely save a bit of weight, mechanical losses, and oil leaks without it

Thanks for the positive comments folks. I'll post up more history and details on it once I dig out all of the paperwork. It's been really well cared for - full service book, all invoices from 18 months old etc.
Ronin - well spotted with the pax side transmission tunnel. I have tried to fix that quickly but there's no give in it at all. Really need to take a proper look at it. It's been like that since I bought it.
MikkiJayne - I'd picked up on forums that the quattro boxes were more prone to issues, but given how well you know them, I'll take your lead

Re: West Mud
The panel has probably got its main fixing screw in the wrong place. If you don't know where it is you have to rummage around in the fabric area below the leather until you find the obscure hole it's in.
I've forgotten what else holds it, I recall tongues at the rear end and "something else" (maybe under the carpet) but others here will know for sure.
It DEFINITELY doesn't just slide out (needs careful wiggling), but it's easier than the drivers side; assuming you take it out to get to the dreaded "ORANGE DRAINS".
There might be another fixing inside the glovebox, but I'm pretty sure the glovebox doesn't have to come out to get at it. Though that's actually relatively easy (as jobs go for a D2!)
