Mine is still stood on the drive waiting for me to decide what to do about it's gearbox problem. It's a really tough call. Nice car, gets lots of attention from delivery drivers etc even parked up. I feel like I would like to be driving it but at £6k repair it just makes no sense. Plus the other stuff that will need doing over the next couple of years. Tyres, timing belt, power steering pipes probably, oil cooler is leaking water again. I fixed this 8 years ago but I guess I either did a crap job or they only last 8 years.
I do have a "clutching at straws" moment going on just now though. I believe the possibility of a hairline crack in the 1058 427 068 valve body can give the same symptoms that my gearbox is displaying. I always intended to drop the oil pan anyway to inspect for shrapnel to aid my decision process so I think I'll drop the valve body at the same time to see if I can see anything. I'll be doing it this spring so I'll keep you posted.

It's no longer available but luckily I have a good used one. Apparently it's such a common issue that Ericsson offer a repair service on an exchange basis.
I really am clutching at straws her but if it's not this then the gearbox will have to come out. At 60 years old and spending over 40 years as a maintenance engineer I'm not sure my back and knees are going to thank me for it.
It will be a shame if it's the A Clutch drum or Orings / thrust bearings as I think it's quite a straightforward job, once you get the gearbox out. That's gonna be the tough part.

Take the engine and gearbox out together on the subframe if you have to. Its far easier like that than trying to get the gearbox out on axle stands. Buy/borrow a pallet truck and you can lower the subframe on to it and then wheel the whole assembly out.
Take the engine off the gearbox using an engine crane with levelling bar, not the other way round, as the engine's CoG is more predictable than the gearbox.
