Presumably, then...

The intermittent wire in the PF is given its protocol from the stalk and only runs through the relay for the sake of effecting the timing on the FL. Or maybe the relay takes over the whole job?
I can't imagine the protocol coming from the motor itself.
I digress.

This last one slightly odd as most older motors have a permanent +12v for this, but its hard to tell exactly because it goes through the intermittent module. It could just be an oddity of the diagram though. The PF diagram might be more help here since they didn't have the variable intermittent ...
