Re: Have I jinxed myself?
Ok, I'll try not to panic too much then. I had one that did the TC clutch judder at low revs. Was worried it might be early stages of that, but it takes off perfectly under load. Tried it up a sharp hill to see if I could get it to react. Nothing. Also had a box on a very high milage PF 4.2 ...

Re: Have I jinxed myself?
Probs worth mentioning that it's been off the road quite some time, and defo didn't have the issue before hand.
I did get the gearbox service done last time it was active, but only the syringe, standard one. Not a full flush. I think I did a good 2000 miles after the service, before it came off the ...

Have I jinxed myself?
After the consideration that I might keep my spare gearbox (which won't fit), I had a slightly worrying drive into town this morning....
Whilst at lights (the first time I'd had need to stop since getting it back on the road), I thought it was mis-firing as I was getting an occasional very small ...

Re: To hoard, or not to hoard?
Well, that certainly settles it. At least I don't have to find a place to store a gearboxMikkiJayne wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 8:33 am ECZ is an A8 gearbox, ECY is an S8 gearbox. Not compatible I'm afraid, as the final drive is different.

To hoard, or not to hoard?
Could I swap out an ECZ for a ECY without magic, deception and trickery?
I ask because at mines at 170k and although it's showing no signs of gearbox misbehaviour, I have an ECZ that I'm about to sell and wondering if it might be prudent to hold on to it?

Re: Factory heated steering wheel 4.2 FL for sale in UK
Halogens are way better than xenon pluses after 20+ years and if i were you I'd keep them. They can be fitted with bi-led and bi-xenon lenses and be as good as any modern headlights.. more info here:

The one I'm dismantling at the mo has halogens and blanked off adjuster. I assumed they'd retro-fitted the lights and couldn't be arsed to wire the switch, but maybe not, eh?

Re: Hi
We have an MOT!! Clean one at that (apart from that recall, but it's booked in)...
Took it for a run yesterday. Needs tracked which is getting done tomorrow. Headlight level switch needs reinstated because some previous clown decided LED strips were a better option :| Other than that, seems sweet ...

Re: Hi
I've swapped to standard A8 seat because I LOVE them.
Heating is relatively rare in the A8 standard seats. I'd say at best you have a 50/50 chance of them having the elements fitted. I would suggest checking the wiring in the seat-side connectors and seeing if you have the connections for it ...

Re: Hi
There is a fix for the headrests. You have to shorten the bowden cable between the motor and the lifting mech by about 10mm and this will fix it for ever. It's the same kind of system that flexible dremel shafts use, except audi decided to make theirs too long for the flex shaft inside.
Removing ...
