Greetings from the Netherlands

Post by harvey »

Hi guys, nice to find a forum for the D2, thanks for posting manuals and info. I'm a Brit living in the Netherlands and have recently bought a 2002 4.2 in Aqua Blue (LY5X). Here are photos of her on 18" Avus summer wheels and the original 17" gullideckels with winter tyres.

Mechanical stuff: She's got good service history and, by Dutch standards, hasn't done too many miles (225k kms) so is in generally good order. I unfortunately discovered very worn cam chain sliders when replacing the weeping valve cover seals so I'm in the process of trying to replace these without taking the whole car apart! I have already done the gearbox oil and filter and can unfortunately also not find a record of the oil cooler pipe being replaced so suspect that this will also need doing soon. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and take the front off, daunting though that seems...

Best wishes,

Harvey

PS I had to 3D print a fog light grille that the car was missing so if anybody needs the STL file I can share it :-)

Welcome and a very nice looking A8. 8-) I think there are people here who would be very interested in the fog light grille solution, is that the one-piece version and which side as I don't think they are exact mirrors?
I lent my spare pair to a well-known member here many moons ago for potential scanning for 3D printing but I don't think that got anywhere so I hope he still has them!

Welcome :) Those 17" gullideckels are super-rare over here!

I looked in to printing the fog light grilles but it never seemed worth the effort as a commercial venture since the originals are still available from Tradition at fairly sensible prices. I think there are a fair few 3D models of them kicking about now though. Feel free to share the file if it's suitably licenced.
